Cost of college went up for all students at the University at Buffalo

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.8 percent for 2018-19 at the University at Buffalo, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New York residents paid $10,099 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $271 more than the $9,828 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 175 percent more than residents this year, or $27,769. Their price tag grew 2.6 percent from $27,068 in 2017-18.

About 87 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New York residents. About 2 percent are residents of other states and 11 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 83 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,874 students received grants or scholarships totaling $25.2 million and 2,236 students took out student loans totaling more than $17 million.

Including all undergraduates (31,503), 12,075 students used grants or scholarships totaling $103.2 million, and 9,789 students took out $61.6 million in federal student loans.
