Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) is encouraging students in elementary school to keep up with their reading this summer by participating in his annual Summer Reading Program. The program requires students to read for only 15 minutes a day for 40 days during the months of July and August.
"By signing up for this free program, students make a pledge to commit to reading for just a few minutes every day over their summer break. The rewards of this program are numerous," said Norris.
Norris emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “Students keep up with their reading, which has been proven essential for critical thinking and maintaining learning skills and keeping them on course with curriculum, but also they learn the rewards of keeping their word, of commitment and getting to explore their imagination through the worlds of their reading content.”
Every student who participates will receive a bookmark from the assemblyman, and those who complete the challenge will receive a certificate of achievement. Students can sign up through their classroom or sign up individually.
