Mayor Byron W. Brown, the Division of Citizen Services, and the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency, are pleased to announce the start of another round of Community Crime Prevention Training Sessions, with Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) Principles weaved throughout the program.
City residents can choose to attend any one of the scheduled training sessions, conveniently located at community centers citywide in every police district, beginning the weekend of February 10th.
Mayor Brown stated, “This important session is another example of the great community collaborations that are underway in Buffalo, with a strong focus on creating even safer neighborhoods citywide.”
The goal of this FREE and interactive 5-hour crime prevention training is for communities to create innovative strategies for their neighborhoods, using crime prevention through environmental design principals that will lower the overall criminal activity in a specified area and further enhance relationships between community organizations, community businesses, churches, and law enforcement. Below are the dates for the next series of workshops. City residents can choose to attend the training workshop that is located closest to their residence

This unique initiative is made possible by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, as well as a Buffalo Police Department Gun Involved Violence Elimination G.I.V.E Grant, and is spearheaded by the Division of Citizen Services, in partnership with the Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency.
The Director of the Division of Citizen Services, Oswaldo Mestre Jr., and Special Project Manager for Crime Prevention for the City of Buffalo, Ronald J. Dixon, are nationally certified as CPTED Professional Designators (CPD). Both have successfully taken over 60 hours of CPTED trainings and have both been instrumental in designing the program outline for 2023.
The training is a multi-disciplinary approach to creating a climate of safety in a community, with a focus on crime prevention through environmental design. CPTED’s goal is to prevent crime by designing a physical environment that positively influences human behavior.
Successful completion of this training may lead to funding or leveraging existing City resources and technical assistance for block clubs, agencies, or organizations.
Participants must commit to the full 5 hours to receive a certificate of completion.
