Senator Patrick M. Gallivan has expressed concerns following a recent lockdown at Collins Correctional Facility. In his statement, Gallivan highlighted the challenges faced by corrections officers and emphasized the state's responsibility to ensure that these facilities are properly staffed and equipped.

Gallivan pointed out that "staff shortages and mandatory overtime policies contribute to make an already dangerous environment caused by lax policies and laws favoring offenders even worse." He called on the Legislature, the Executive, and the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) to take more action in ensuring security not only at Collins but across all correctional facilities in New York.
