Canisius College will commemorate U.N. Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday, January 26 when it welcomes New York Times best-selling author Sharon Cameron to campus. Cameron will read from her book The Light in Hidden Places.

The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. in the Regis Rooms of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center, and is free and open to the public.  The event can also be viewed remotely at https://canisius.zoom.us/j/93290638596.

The Light in Hidden Places is a historical novel based on the experiences of Stefania Podgorska, a Polish teenager who chose bravery and humanity by hiding 13 Jews in her attic during World War II with the help of her younger sister, Helena Podgorska.

The book will be available for purchase at a book signing and reception, following the presentation.

Sharon Cameron is the New York Times best-selling author of The Dark Unwinding (2012), A Spark Unseen (2013), Rook (2015), The Forgetting (2016), and The Knowing (2017) and Bluebird (2021).

Her books have won the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, the Westchester Fiction Award, earned starred reviews from Booklist, SLJ, and Kirkus, and have been chosen for numerous lists, including Indie Next Top Ten, YALSA’s Best Fiction for Young Adults, Junior Library Guild Gold Standard, Audible Best Books, and numerous state award nominations.

The Light in Hidden Places was a 2020 Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick and has sold in 18 foreign countries.

Cameron’s visit is made possible by The Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College, the Buffalo Jewish Federation and the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo.

Canisius College is one of 27 Jesuit colleges in the nation and the premier private college in Western New York.

Canisius prepares leaders – intelligent, caring, faithful individuals – able to pursue and promote excellence in their professions, their communities and their service to humanity.
