Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) announced that the New York State Police are now accepting applications for the Trooper Entrance Examination, with testing set to begin on August 15, 2024.

Gallivan, a former Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County, stated that the state is investing $66 million to fund additional State Police academy classes. This investment aims to attract a qualified and diverse pool of candidates to serve and protect state residents.

“The New York State Police is one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the country and serving as a Trooper is a challenging and rewarding career,” Senator Gallivan said. “I encourage eligible individuals who are interested to sign up and take the entrance exam.”

Candidates must be U.S. citizens aged between 20 and 34 at the time of application. The maximum age can be extended by one year for each year of full-time active military duty, up to a maximum of seven years. Applicants must also have a high school diploma or equivalent.

The starting salary for Academy appointees is $59,612. After one year of service, minimum compensation increases to $98,300 with full health benefits and a retirement plan.

Interested candidates can learn more about the process and apply by visiting www.joinstatepolice.ny.gov. Once applied, they can schedule their computerized exam at a convenient time and location.

Applicants are required to pay a $20 fee at the time of application and an additional $44 fee when scheduling the exam.
