U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that a federal grand jury has indicted Terrance Michael Ciszek, also known as DrMonster, a 34-year-old Buffalo Police Detective. The charges include possession of unauthorized access devices with intent to defraud and making false statements to a U.S. agency. These charges could lead to a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles M. Kruly, who is managing the case, explained that the FBI has been investigating Genesis Market since August 2018. This illicit online marketplace deals in stolen data from malware-infected computers worldwide, selling it using virtual currencies like bitcoin.

The indictment and an earlier complaint allege that between March 16 and July 29, 2020, Ciszek purchased 11 packages on Genesis Market containing 194 stolen account credentials. Investigators found that Ciszek had bitcoin wallet addresses linked to UniCC, another dark web carding site where stolen credit card data is traded.

On April 15, 2020, Ciszek reportedly recorded a video detailing how he concealed his identity online when buying stolen credit cards and mentioned using UniCC. In the video, he stated: “And then I usually get my credit cards from UniCC, which is an amazing place if you guys don’t have it.”

On April 4, 2023, Ciszek allegedly made false statements to the FBI by denying any purchases of stolen credentials online and suggesting his nephew might be responsible for such transactions.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under Special Agent-in-Charge Matthew Miraglia's direction.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation; the defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
