Assemblyman David DiPietro hosted a ceremony to dedicate a bridge on State Route 75, crossing Eighteen Mile Creek in Eden, as the “Specialist Peter J. Loretto, Jr. Memorial Bridge.” The event honored Specialist Peter J. Loretto, Jr., a Vietnam War veteran and public servant.
Loretto served in the Army from 1966 to 1968 with the Herc Missile Crew in Germany and left with the rank of specialist 4th Class (SPC4). He spent 33 years as highway superintendent for the Town of Eden and was a founding member of the Erie County Association of Highway Superintendents. In his roles as president and board member, he helped establish mutual aid agreements with other county superintendents. Additionally, he volunteered for 48 years with the Langford-New Oregon Fire Department, holding leadership positions such as chief and assistant chief.
“Today’s dedication is a fitting tribute to Specialist Loretto,” said DiPietro. “His dedication to his country, his town and his community should inspire us all to strive for excellence in our own lives. This bridge will stand as a lasting symbol of his remarkable service and commitment to the values of leadership and selflessness. By naming this bridge in his honor, we celebrate his enduring legacy and remind ourselves of the profound impact one individual can have on their community and beyond.”
