Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C-Lockport) announced today that the state Assembly has passed a bill (A.10399) mandating the annual inspection of any vessel operated on privately or publicly owned underground non-navigable waterways. Norris collaborated with Sen. Rob Ortt and other colleagues across party lines to advance this legislation, aimed at ensuring attractions like the one in the Lockport Cave are properly inspected.

"Proper oversight of these rides has been a top priority of mine during this legislative session to protect both the patrons who wish to partake in these unique attractions and business operators going forward," said Norris. "I am pleased there was bipartisan agreement on the final bill’s language submitted by the governor and that the bill will be sent to the governor for her signature. I am confident this legislation addresses an apparent loophole in current law and provides the clear authority and responsibility for the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to inspect these tourist attractions annually."
