Senator Patrick M. Gallivan has sponsored a resolution in the New York State Senate, requesting Governor Kathy Hochul to declare May 12-18, 2024 as Police Week in the state. During his speech on the Senate floor, Senator Gallivan acknowledged law enforcement officers from various agencies who were present in the Senate gallery.
"As a longtime member of the law enforcement community, I am proud to stand today in support of Police Week in NYS and across the country," Senator Gallivan stated. "This week is set aside as a time to recognize those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. It is a reminder of the dangers these dedicated public servants confront on a daily basis. As a nation…we should consider an attack on a police officer as an attack on all of us. It is an assault on the rule of law, which makes a civilized society possible. We all know that a job in law enforcement is dangerous and difficult. We are fortunate that despite the risk and challenges, hundreds of thousands of dedicated officers are on the job every day across the country enforcing our laws and keeping us safe. I thank those who serve and honor those who have fallen."
