Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) was present at the graduation ceremonies on Wednesday, May 15, for the 228 new members of the New York State Police. Gallivan, a former State Trooper and Sheriff of Erie County, extended his congratulations to the graduates of the 214th session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy.
“I always look forward to attending the graduation ceremony for these dedicated men and women who have made a commitment to serve the residents of New York State,” Senator Gallivan stated. “After six months of intensive academic, physical, and tactical training, these new Troopers are prepared to join one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the country. I wish them a long and rewarding law enforcement career.”
The graduating class included Quinten Vles from Lancaster; Benjamin Hanford from Clarence; Elijah Borowiak and Christian Maeder from Hamburg; Conor Mahony from Lancaster; Robert Witnauer and Samantha Iwankow from West Seneca; Elliot Moore and Joelle Kadi from Orchard Park; Gary Andzel from West Seneca; and Griffin Smith from Holland. All these individuals are residents of the 60th State Senate District.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Empire State Plaza Convention Hall in Albany.
In addition to attending this event, Senator Gallivan sponsored a resolution in the NYS Senate earlier this week. This resolution urges Governor Hochul to proclaim May 12-18, 2024 as Police Week in New York State. In line with National Police Week, this observance pays tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in service and commends those who continue working tirelessly to ensure public safety.
