The English Department recently published its fifth installment of The Pandemic Project, a literary arts journal of student work curated by Professors Jennifer Campbell and Lisa Wiley Moslow.
The Pandemic Project evolved in Spring 2020 when the annual Spring Arts Festival was cancelled due to COVID-19. Knowing students would not be able to recite their work live on stage, Campbell and Moslow wanted to provide a space to commemorate the students’ creative efforts.
“We hoped to share student voices and talent by recording their challenges and the ways in which they came to terms with the pandemic,” explained Professor Campbell.
Volume 5 encompasses work submitted during the fall of 2022 from students in pandemic literature, composition and creative writing courses. It also includes two pieces written by Cardinal O’Hara High School creative writing students.
“This marks what we hope will be the final issue of The Pandemic Project,” added Professor Moslow. “The pieces move readers away from the early days of masks and isolation and into themes of fostering self-care and seeking refuge in nature.”
The collection will be permanently housed in the SUNY Open Access Repository (SOAR) thanks to SUNY Erie Librarian Matthew Best.
