Josh Doan and Alex Tuch played key roles in the Buffalo Sabres’ comeback effort, but the team ultimately lost 4-3 in overtime to the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday.

The Sabres entered the third period trailing 3-1. Doan scored to narrow the gap with an assist from Tuch, who later tied the game with just over five minutes remaining. Marat Khusnutdinov scored for Boston on an odd-man rush two minutes into overtime, securing the win for the Bruins.

Despite the loss, Buffalo has earned at least one point in seven of its last eight games. The team’s record now stands at 4-4-3, maintaining a .500 points percentage.

In the first period, Buffalo outshot Boston 13-5 and generated several high-danger chances but fell behind 2-0 after goals by Morgan Geekie and David Pastrnak. Rasmus Dahlin scored his first goal of the season during a power play in the second period with Doan screening in front of the net. However, Mark Kastelic responded for Boston late in that period.

Alex Lyon made 19 saves for Buffalo. Jordan Greenway returned from injury to make his season debut, logging over 15 minutes of ice time and recording three shots and three hits.

The Sabres will next host the Washington Capitals on Saturday at KeyBank Center. The event will also mark Hockey Fights Cancer Night, presented by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Coverage will begin at 6:30 p.m., with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
