Josh Dunne scored his first NHL goal for the Buffalo Sabres, but the team lost 4-3 in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets at KeyBank Center on Tuesday.
In addition to Dunne’s milestone, Josh Doan and Ryan McLeod also found the net for Buffalo. Goaltender Alex Lyon recorded 34 saves during the game.
Columbus took an early lead in the first period with Yegor Chinakhov scoring his second goal of the season. The Sabres tied it midway through the second period when Doan was left alone in front of Blue Jackets goaltender Jet Greaves and scored his third goal of the year.
McLeod put Buffalo ahead 2-1 late in the second period with a shot that deflected off a Columbus defender. This point extended McLeod’s streak to seven points over his last seven games, including at least one point in each of his past four appearances.
Early in the third period, Dunne gave Buffalo a 3-2 advantage by pushing the puck past Greaves during a scramble near the net. However, Miles Wood equalized for Columbus after redirecting a shot from Chinakhov past Lyon. Wood then secured victory for Columbus with his second goal of the night during overtime.
Defenseman Michael Kesselring made his season debut for Buffalo, logging nearly 18 minutes on ice. Mattias Samuelsson contributed an assist, extending his career-best point streak to four games.
The Sabres now have a record of 4-4-2 and have earned at least one point in six of their last seven games.
Buffalo’s next game is scheduled against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Thursday, with coverage beginning at 6:30 p.m. on MSG and puck drop set for 7 p.m.
