The Buffalo Sabres secured a 5-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday at KeyBank Center. The team’s fourth line played a significant role in the win, with Noah Ostlund scoring his second and third NHL goals. Beck Malenstyn added his first goal of the season, while Josh Dunne recorded his first career assist.
Bowen Byram scored the game-winning goal in the second period. With this result, the Sabres have now won two consecutive games and have earned points in eight of their last nine home matchups.
Goaltender Colten Ellis made his fourth start for Buffalo—his third in the past four games—and stopped 32 of 33 shots. Ellis has started his NHL career with a 3-1-0 record.
The scoring summary began with Ostlund’s power-play goal late in the first period, assisted by Isak Rosen and Rasmus Dahlin. Edmonton tied it early in the second through Jack Roslovic, but Byram restored Buffalo’s lead minutes later. Malenstyn extended the advantage less than a minute after that, assisted by Dahlin and Mattias Samuelsson.
Ostlund scored again in the third period off an assist from Dunne, and Tage Thompson sealed the game with an unassisted empty-net goal late in regulation.
The Sabres will next face the Calgary Flames at home on Wednesday. Tickets are available online. MSG’s pregame coverage is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., followed by puck drop at 7:30 p.m.
