The Buffalo Sabres secured a 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday at Prudential Center. Tage Thompson and Peyton Krebs each recorded a goal and an assist, contributing to both of Buffalo’s goals. Bowen Byram also registered an assist in the game.
Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen returned from a lower-body injury to start for the Sabres, making 27 saves on 28 shots. Forwards Josh Norris and Josh Dunne were back in the lineup for their first games since mid-January. Norris played 14 minutes and 33 seconds with one shot on goal, while Dunne was on the ice for 11 minutes and 15 seconds, also recording one shot.
With this win, the Sabres now have 72 points and are tied with Montreal and Detroit for second place in the Atlantic Division. Neither Montreal nor Detroit played on Wednesday.
Buffalo opened scoring in the second period when Thompson scored his 31st goal of the season at 8:09, assisted by Krebs and Byram. In the third period, Krebs added his eighth goal at 10:36 with an assist from Thompson. The Devils responded late in the third period with Timo Meier scoring at 17:30, assisted by Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt.
