The Buffalo Sabres will face the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Xfinity Mobile Arena, aiming to extend their current winning streak to three games for the first time this season.
Buffalo has previously seen its winning runs halted after two victories on four occasions during the 2025-26 campaign. After a shootout win against Minnesota and a decisive victory over Winnipeg, the Sabres have returned to an even record of 11-11-4. This places them near the lower end of the Eastern Conference standings but only four points out of a playoff spot.
Head coach Lindy Ruff emphasized the importance of performing well away from home as the team begins a six-game road trip, their longest since January 2012. “One road win at a time,” Ruff said following Saturday’s game in Minnesota. “… The only way to get back in the race, right in the thick of it, is win road games.”
Buffalo’s performance on the road has been challenging so far with a 2-6-2 record, though both wins have come in their last three away games.
Wednesday’s game will be broadcast nationally on TNT and streamed via HBO Max. Radio coverage is available on WGR 550 and through the Buffalo Sabres App.
Goaltender Colten Ellis will start in net for Buffalo, having made 22 saves—including two in overtime—in his previous outing against Minnesota. Tyson Kozak remains sidelined with a minor injury, while Josh Dunne steps into the lineup for Jordan Greenway due to load management.
In their recent game against Winnipeg, Buffalo’s top line featured Josh Norris alongside Tage Thompson and Zach Benson for the first time this season with all players healthy. The trio combined effectively, logging over eleven minutes together at even strength and contributing to Norris’ first two goals of the year. Both scoring plays began with breakout passes—one from Mattias Samuelsson and another from Rasmus Dahlin—highlighting Benson’s role as playmaker.
“We saw his speed, saw some of the plays he made, good on the power play,” Ruff said about Norris’ return from an upper-body injury that kept him out since opening night. “… That’s what we were hoping to see. I thought he had a great night from start to finish.”
The Flyers enter Wednesday’s matchup following a 5-1 loss to Pittsburgh but have won eight of their last thirteen games and are positioned near the top of their division. Improvements in goaltending have helped Philadelphia move up from last year’s league-worst save percentage; offseason addition Dan Vladar currently holds a .906 save percentage across sixteen starts.
Philadelphia forward Trevor Zegras leads his team with 25 points in as many games after joining from Anaheim in June. Matvei Michkov has also increased his production recently, scoring seven goals over his past twelve appearances.
Last season, Buffalo managed just one win in three meetings against Philadelphia, losing both matchups played at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
