Peyton Krebs has been a steady source of energy for the Buffalo Sabres during their playoff push, according to comments made on March 30. The 25-year-old forward is recognized for his consistent high-speed play, whether on offense or defense.
Krebs said after practice at KeyBank Center that he tries to spark his teammates with energetic plays. “On the bench, or any game you feel you need some energy, I’ll go lay out a big hit or try to do something to start the boys up,” Krebs said. “I feel like when you do those things, it brings guys together and makes them want to do the same.”
Coach Lindy Ruff praised Krebs’ approach and impact on team morale. “His energy, it’s always up there at the top,” Ruff said. “Some of the energy, on a down day, I think even annoys some of the players: ‘Quit competing so hard, I don’t feel as good as you do.’ But that energy is infectious. There’s not once you have to tell the guy, ‘Come on, pick it up a little bit.’ It’s what drives teams. He’s a driver.”
Krebs has achieved career highs this season with 10 goals and 35 points and ranks second among Sabres players in hits. He has also played an important role alongside teammates Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch; during their shared time on ice at even strength this season, Buffalo has outscored opponents by six goals.
Despite playing all 74 games in what he described as a condensed schedule so far this year, Krebs is looking forward to potentially another long run into the postseason—his likely playoff debut with Buffalo since joining five years ago.
Looking ahead to Tuesday’s home game against the New York Islanders, coach Ruff provided lineup updates including Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen likely starting in goal after alternating since the Olympic break and possible returns from injury for forwards Noah Ostlund and Jordan Greenway.
As anticipation builds in Buffalo for playoff hockey—with fans expressing excitement around town—Krebs reflected on community support: “I go to the grocery store, and people are excited… That just shows how excited they are.” The Sabres will continue their fight for home-ice advantage when they face off against New York.
