Stella Hycner, a resident at Catholic Health’s McAuley Residence in Kenmore, New York, recently celebrated her 107th birthday. Born on May 5, 1918, in Buffalo, she shares her birth year with prominent figures such as Rita Hayworth and Billy Graham. Her birth coincided with significant historical events like the end of World War I and the Spanish Flu pandemic.
On May 5, 2025, McAuley Residence honored Stella’s milestone with a birthday party. Erie County Senior Services Commissioner Randy Hoak attended the event and presented Stella with a proclamation from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. The proclamation declared May 5 as “Stella Hycner Day” in Erie County and highlighted her life and contributions.
Stella has spent much of her life in Buffalo, balancing family responsibilities with various jobs. She attended Public School #79 and worked at Dunlop and Bells Supermarket until its closure in 1992. Despite her age, Stella remains connected to her family through video chats and enjoys Polish music that reminds her of dancing with her husband Frank.
Stella is part of a large family, being one of five siblings herself. She also has three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
