Local WWII hero honored with road dedication in Wyoming County

Assemblyman David DiPietro, along with Senator George Borrello and Gainesville Town Supervisor David Granger, held a ceremony to honor Technical Sergeant Walter W. Shearing. They dedicated a portion of State Route 19 in his name. T Sgt. Shearing, a native of Wyoming County, lost his life during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.

DiPietro stated that Shearing “represents the very best of America.” The dedication serves as a tribute to his sacrifice and legacy.
