Joe Brady has reached an agreement to become the next head coach of the Buffalo Bills, signing a five-year contract. He will be the team’s 21st head coach.
Brady was promoted internally, having served as the Bills’ offensive coordinator from 2024 to 2025 and as interim offensive coordinator for the final nine games of the 2023 season, including playoffs. He joined the Bills ahead of the 2022 season as quarterbacks coach.
During his time as offensive coordinator, Brady led offenses that ranked among the league’s best in several categories. In 2025, Buffalo’s offense was first in rushing yards per game (159.6) and time of possession (33:08), third in red zone efficiency (66.2%), fourth in points per game (28.3), total yards per game (376.3), and third down conversion rate (44.8%).
In 2024, under Brady’s leadership, Buffalo became the first NFL team to record at least 30 rushing and 30 receiving touchdowns in a single season. That year, they averaged an AFC-best 30.9 points per game and allowed only 14 sacks, leading the league.
From his tenure as offensive coordinator onward, the Bills averaged 29.6 points per game (second in the league), 367.7 total yards per game (third), 145.4 rushing yards per game (third), and 222.3 passing yards per game (tenth).
Quarterback Josh Allen posted notable numbers with Brady overseeing the offense since 2024: Allen led the NFL with 79 offensive touchdowns and ranked second in wins (25), eighth in passing touchdowns (53), ninth in passing yards (7,399), sixth in passing yards per attempt (7.8) and passer rating (101.8).
Before joining Buffalo, Brady was offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers from 2020 to 2021 and worked with the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant from 2017 to 2018.
Brady also coached at LSU as passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach during their undefeated national championship season in 2019 when quarterback Joe Burrow won the Heisman Trophy; he earned college football’s Broyles Award that year for top assistant coach honors.
Brady is originally from Pembroke Pines, Florida, is 36 years old, and played wide receiver at William & Mary from 2009 to 2012.
