Buffalo Bills running back James Cook III has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Month for September. Cook accumulated 490 total scrimmage yards and scored five touchdowns in the first four games of the 2025 NFL season.

Cook is currently second in the league for rushing yards, recording 401 yards on 75 carries. He also contributed 12 receptions for 89 yards. The Buffalo Bills lead the NFL in team rushing yards during their undefeated start to the season.

Cook became only the sixth player in the Super Bowl era to achieve at least 100 scrimmage yards and a rushing touchdown in each of his team’s first four games. He is also the first Bills player since O.J. Simpson in 1975 to surpass 100 or more scrimmage yards in each of the team’s opening four games.

Now in his fourth season, Cook has seen increased playing time, appearing on 61% of offensive snaps through four games. In Week 4, he set a franchise record with his eighth straight game scoring a rushing touchdown.

In Week 2 against the Jets, Cook registered his fifth career touchdown run of over 40 yards during the first half. Since entering the league in 2022, no other player has as many touchdown runs of this distance.
