FOIA Request to University At Buffalo regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the University At Buffalo by a representative from the Buffalo Ledger, seeking access to educational records. The request, dated August 6, 2025, specifically asks for a complete list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 semester. This includes syllabi for courses conducted in-person, online, or in hybrid formats across all departments, schools, and colleges within the university.

The requester has also asked for relevant metadata accompanying these syllabi. This includes details such as the course title and number, instructor name, department or academic unit, and the course delivery format (whether online, in-person, or hybrid). The information is requested under the New York Freedom of Information Law with a preference for receiving it in electronic format.

The individual submitting this request is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. This organization assists media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies by utilizing Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. The requester has expressed that access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling their role in providing transparency and holding public institutions accountable. Additionally, they have requested a fee waiver based on their status as a media professional.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
