On Saturday, May 17, former St. Mary’s High School standout Cole Laskowski’s current collegiate team the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears lost 11-3 against the North Georgia Nighthawks in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.
The game took place at Abbey Yard at 7:30 p.m. and was the second matchup against the North Georgia Nighthawks in the tournament.
The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears’ next game will take place on Thursday, May 22 at 6 p.m. at Newman Park.
The Buffalo Sabres lost to the Ottawa Senators and missed an immediate chance to clinch a playoff spot. Their next opportunity comes Saturday against Washington as they remain tied with Tampa Bay atop their division.
The Buffalo Sabres have signed defenseman Maxim Strbak to a three-year entry-level contract starting in the 2026-27 season. Strbak played college hockey at Michigan State University and has represented Slovakia internationally.
Kyle Buchanan led with six points as Buffalo defeated Rochester for its seventh straight win. The victory included milestone achievements for several players amid key lineup changes. Team awards were also announced before an enthusiastic home crowd.
