Negotiations between three Catholic Health hospitals and the Communications Workers of America (CWA), Locals 1133 and 1168, have progressed in recent weeks. Representatives from Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, Kenmore Mercy Hospital, and Sisters of Charity Hospital, St. Joseph Campus continue to meet with union bargaining teams.
The parties have received support from an impartial mediator during these talks. Both sides have exchanged several economic proposals as they work toward tentative agreements for nearly 3,000 associates at the three facilities. The hospitals presented their latest economic offers on Wednesday afternoon and bargaining continues.
Catholic Health is seeking fair collective bargaining agreements amid ongoing financial challenges for healthcare providers nationwide. Hospitals are dealing with reduced federal Medicaid funding, higher operational costs, and lower reimbursement rates from private insurers. These factors are contributing to increased strain on hospital operations across the country.
Despite these issues, Catholic Health has stated its commitment to recruiting and retaining skilled staff to ensure safe and high-quality care for the community.
