The Buffalo Sabres have signed Radim Mrtka, a right-shot defenseman, to a three-year entry-level contract. The announcement was made on Monday.
Mrtka was selected by the Sabres with the ninth-overall pick in last month’s NHL Draft. At 18 years old, he joined the Western Hockey League’s Seattle Thunderbirds last November and appeared in 43 regular season games, where he recorded 35 points, including three goals and 32 assists. He finished with a plus-10 rating during his time with the Thunderbirds.
Before joining the WHL, Mrtka played for Ocelari Trinec in Czechia’s Extraliga. He has also represented Czechia at several international tournaments.
“‘A package that’s pretty rare’ | Sabres and Mrtka happy to have each other,” the team stated.
