The Buffalo Sabres defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-0 at KeyBank Center on April 10, with Colten Ellis earning his first National Hockey League shutout and Josh Doan scoring twice.
Ellis made a career-high 37 saves in his first start since February after Alex Lyon was sidelined due to a lower-body injury during morning skate. The win marked the Sabres’ fifth shutout of the season.
Peyton Krebs opened the scoring in the first period, which remained the only goal until Buffalo tallied four more times in the third. Doan and Jack Quinn scored within a span of 25 seconds, followed by another goal from Doan and an empty-net finish by Rasmus Dahlin. Josh Norris contributed two assists, bringing his total to seven points over six games, while Logan Stanley returned to action with two assists after being scratched in a previous game.
With this victory, Buffalo maintained its lead in the Atlantic Division and improved its record to 49-23-8 for a total of 106 points. The team has secured at least one point in 26 of its last 32 games, going 23-6-3 during that stretch. The Sabres are now also noted for their strong performance when scoring first (36-6-2), leading after two periods (34-2-0), and playing back-to-back games (9-1-3).
The Sabres will next face the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, with coverage beginning at 8 p.m. on MSG.
