The Buffalo Sabres secured a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings in a preseason game held Saturday at KeyBank Center.
Nine Sabres players contributed to the score sheet. Tage Thompson and Josh Norris each registered three points, with Thompson tallying two goals and one assist, and Norris recording one goal and two assists.
Alex Tuch made his first preseason appearance after missing three games due to an undisclosed injury. He played for 18 minutes and assisted on Thompson’s power-play goal in the third period.
Recent first-round draft picks Konsta Helenius and Radim Mrtka were involved in Buffalo’s second goal. Helenius set up Mrtka, who scored his first preseason goal. Helenius has played in all four of Buffalo’s preseason games so far, collecting three points.
Goaltender Alex Lyon played the full game for Buffalo, making 26 saves on 28 shots. Over five periods of preseason play, Lyon has stopped 39 of 42 shots faced.
With this victory, the Sabres improved their preseason record to 3-1. Their final home exhibition game is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
