The Buffalo Sabres defeated the Boston Bruins 6-1 in Game 4 of their first-round playoff series at TD Garden, according to an April 26 announcement. The win gives the Sabres a 3-1 lead in the series, with a chance to advance in Game 5 at KeyBank Center on Tuesday.
The victory was marked by Buffalo scoring its first opening-period goal of the series, as Peyton Krebs found the net just over four minutes into play. The Sabres outshot the Bruins 19-5 in that period and led by four goals after contributions from Krebs, Josh Doan, Zach Benson, and Bowen Byram.
Beck Malenstyn and Alex Tuch added third-period goals for Buffalo. Tuch’s goal resulted in Boston changing goaltenders after Jeremy Swayman allowed six goals on 29 shots. Joonas Korpisalo made his first appearance of the series for Boston as relief.
Alex Lyon started for Buffalo and made 21 saves before conceding a late goal to Sean Kuraly. Krebs and Owen Power both recorded points for their fourth consecutive game, joining Danny Gare as the only players in franchise history to achieve this feat during their first four career playoff games. Byram and Tuch also extended their point streaks to four games each; both now have three playoff goals apiece with Tuch leading with six total points.
Despite going scoreless on three power plays—making them zero-for-seventeen in the series—Buffalo managed a near-power-play goal when Doan scored just as Viktor Arvidsson exited the penalty box. Arvidsson left with an upper-body injury and did not return; he is tied for Boston’s team lead with two postseason goals so far.
The teams will meet again Tuesday night at KeyBank Center for Game 5. Broadcast coverage will be available locally on MSG starting at 7 p.m., while national audiences can watch via TNT, truTV, or HBO Max.
