The Buffalo Sabres, in partnership with Seneca Resorts and Casinos, will host their annual Native American Heritage Night on Monday, November 17, during their game against the Edmonton Oilers. The event aims to recognize and honor Indigenous culture in Western New York through a variety of activities and entertainment.

As part of the evening’s programming, the first edition of the Community Artist Series—created in collaboration with the AKG Buffalo Art Museum—will showcase practice jerseys designed by Seneca artist G. Peter Jemison. These special jerseys feature Jemison’s interpretation of the Sabres logo and are currently available for auction until Sunday, November 23 at 9 p.m. Proceeds from this auction will support Western Door Hockey.

Merchandise featuring Jemison’s logo will also be sold at the Sabres store. Fans can learn more about Jemison and his design through a video feature provided by the team.

In addition to merchandise sales, fans have an opportunity to participate in a sweepstakes for a chance to win one of Jemison’s jerseys along with a pair of beaded earrings crafted by Mohawk artist Nancy Washburn. According to information shared by the Sabres: “You could win a Native American Heritage Night jersey, designed by Seneca artist Peter Jemison, and a pair of beaded earrings designed by artist Nancy Washburn!”

Entertainment for the night includes a performance by Frank Wesaw, a Native American dance group, who will perform inside KeyBank Center near the ground-level box office from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. The group’s performance is described as being “rooted in the rich traditions of the Haudenosaunee and reflects the energy, beauty and spirit of the Seneca culture through dance and song.” Additionally, Jeremey Keyes Band will serve as house band for pregame festivities and intermissions.

The American Legion Iroquois Post 1587 has been designated as honorary color guard for the national anthem during the event.
