The Buffalo Bills announced on May 12 the signing of tight end Shane Zylstra to a one-year contract.

The addition of Zylstra gives the team another option at the tight end position as they prepare for the upcoming season. The move also comes with a roster adjustment, as kicker Maddux Trujillo was released in a corresponding transaction.

Zylstra, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 244 pounds, spent the last five seasons with Detroit from 2021 to 2025. During his time with the Lions, he played in 35 games and recorded 18 catches for 136 yards and four touchdowns.

A native of Spicer, Minnesota, Zylstra played college football at Division II Minnesota State. He was recognized as Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 and earned First-team All-American honors in 2019. After going undrafted in 2021, he initially signed with the Minnesota Vikings but was waived before the start of that season. He then joined Detroit prior to Week 1 that year.

Zylstra will wear No. 48 as he continues his NFL career in Buffalo.
