The Buffalo Bills announced on Mar. 13 that they have signed punter Mitch Wishnowsky to a one-year contract. Wishnowsky, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent entering the 2026 league year, will continue with the team for another season.
The move keeps stability in the Bills’ special teams unit as Wishnowsky prepares for his second year in Buffalo and eighth overall in the National Football League. The Australian punter joined the Bills in 2025 after spending six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers from 2019 to 2024.
During his first season with Buffalo, Wishnowsky recorded 38 punts totaling 1,590 net yards (1,723 total yards), with nearly half—18 of them—landing inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. He did not have any punts blocked during the entire 2025 season.
Over his NFL career, Wishnowsky has made a total of 105 punts for 14,328 net yards (15,820 total yards), and placed 156 punts inside the opposing team’s 20-yard line. He has only had two punts blocked throughout his seven years in the league.
Wishnowsky was originally drafted by San Francisco in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft as the 110th overall pick out of Utah. After being released by San Francisco, he spent time on Washington’s practice squad before signing a one-year deal with Buffalo on September 30, 2025.
With this new contract, Wishnowsky is set to enter his eighth NFL season and second year as a member of the Buffalo Bills.
