The Buffalo Bills announced on Apr. 25 the selection of punter Tommy Doman Jr. from Florida with the 239th overall pick in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.
Doman Jr.’s addition is notable as it marks the first time since 2022 that the team has drafted a punter, reflecting an effort to strengthen their special teams unit ahead of the upcoming season.
Doman Jr., originally from Michigan, was ranked as the No. 2 punter prospect out of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School and began his college career at Michigan before transferring to Florida for his final season. During his time at Michigan, he demonstrated success punting in cold weather conditions, averaging 44.3 yards per punt in 2023 and recording 26 fair catches on 53 punts.
With Florida, Doman Jr. led all Football Bowl Subdivision players in hang time during the 2025 season and recorded a punt measuring 71 yards, ranking sixth longest among all players that year. He also landed seventeen punts inside opponents’ twenty-yard line and averaged forty-four yards per punt with the Gators. In both 2023 and 2024 at Michigan, he served not only as a punter but also handled kickoff duties and was a special teams holder.
Bills General Manager Brandon Beane said after the draft that there will be competition for one roster spot between Doman Jr. and last year’s starting punter Mitch Wishnowsky heading into Week One: “We wanted to go to camp with two punters. That’s our plan, two punters, two kickers.” The team’s current kicker options are Tyler Bass and Maddux Trujillo.
Doman Jr.’s father, Tommy Doman Sr., served as a Colonel in the Marines.
