The Buffalo Bills announced on May 12 the recipients of the Week 5 High School Girls Flag Football Coaches of the Week. The recognition aims to highlight varsity girls’ flag football coaches for their efforts both on and off the field across the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse regions.

Over a seven-week period, coaches from each region are honored and receive $1,000 for their teams. Each Coach of the Week will also be eligible for selection as Coach of the Year.

For the Buffalo region (Section VI), Kenmore head coach Dan Hannon was named Coach of the Week for his team’s performance through Sunday, May 10. Hannon has led Kenmore to a 22-6 overall record in his two seasons as head coach and secured a division championship in 2025. “With a solid foundation set in year one, we continue to build ‘brick by brick’ each day through hard work,” said Hannon. “We maintain a high standard of character and effort and create a fun, welcoming environment for girls to be the best version of themselves both on and off the field.” In addition to athletic achievements, Hannon’s team hosts free clinics to promote interest in flag football among district girls and participates in community events such as teaching bike safety.

In Rochester (Section V), Padilla head coach Dennis Thomas was recognized after leading his team from a challenging inaugural season last year to an improved record this season. Padilla Athletic Director Robert Thomas said, “Coach Thomas is highly deserving of Coach of the Week recognition. In just his second year with the program, he has transformed it by building from the bottom up and establishing a culture centered on hard work, accountability, and family.” Dennis Thomas added: “Nothing happens without commitment, consistency, and courage. I chose coaching to help create better people for our future… As a teacher, I believe sports allow leaders to reach those who would not normally be within reach.” Under his leadership this season Padilla achieved an 8-3-1 overall record with six shutouts.

Central Square’s Dan Scicchitano received honors for Syracuse (Section III). Now in his second season as head coach/offensive coordinator at Central Square’s girls flag football program—having previously guided them to a sectional title—Scicchitano helped turn around their current season after four initial losses by winning eight out of ten subsequent games including three consecutive shutouts. “One of my greatest thrills is watching plays we work on in practice lead to winning some close games,” said Scicchitano. He also serves as offensive coordinator for Central Square’s tackle football team while coaching other sports at multiple levels; his players participate actively in community events such as Unified basketball games and reading programs at local schools.

The list also included previous weekly honorees from other schools across all three regions throughout Weeks 1–4.
