The Buffalo Bills have announced the return of their iconic red helmets for the 2025 season. These helmets will be worn during the Week 18 game against the Jets, marking the final regular season game at Highmark Stadium before a new stadium opens next year.
The red helmets, featuring classic blue and white striping with white facemasks, were originally worn by the team from 1987 to 2001. The announcement was made through a video highlighting memorable moments in Bills history, emphasizing the connection between these helmets and the team’s legacy.
“There’s no better way to celebrate our fans and honor our team’s history by bringing back the red helmets,” said Bills Chief Operating Officer Pete Guelli. He added that wearing these helmets is a fitting tribute as they close Highmark Stadium for regular-season games.
In addition to the red helmets, the Bills will also bring back their ‘Standing Buffalo’ throwback uniforms twice during the season. These uniforms feature a bold red Buffalo silhouette on the helmet and classic jersey colors. They will be worn in Week 6 against Atlanta and Week 11 against Tampa Bay. The Falcons have also announced they will wear their own throwback uniforms in their matchup with Buffalo.
The standing Buffalo design dates back to 1962 and is cherished by fans for its simplicity and uniqueness. The last appearance of these throwbacks was on October 31, 2021, in a game against Miami which resulted in a win for Buffalo. Bringing back these uniforms aims to honor past achievements while energizing fans for another successful season.
