The Buffalo Sabres were defeated by the Boston Bruins 3-1 on Saturday at TD Garden. Alex Lyon, in his second start of the season for Buffalo, made 28 saves on 30 shots, including stopping all 16 attempts in the first period until Pavel Zacha scored for Boston.
Zacha’s goal came at 15:46 of the first period, assisted by Jordan Harris and Andrew Peeke. The Bruins extended their lead to 2-0 midway through the second period when Mark Kastelic’s shot deflected past Lyon.
Buffalo narrowed the gap late in the third period as Jason Zucker scored with help from Mattias Samuelsson. Zucker’s shot was redirected off a Bruins defenseman and went over goaltender Jeremy Swayman’s shoulder. Swayman finished with 21 saves.
Boston sealed its win with an empty-net goal from Sean Kuraly at 19:57 of the third period, assisted by Elias Lindholm and Mark Kastelic.
The Sabres played without Josh Norris, who was placed on injured reserve due to an upper-body injury. Coach Lindy Ruff said Zach Benson could return Wednesday against Ottawa.
Buffalo will next play at home against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday at KeyBank Center. Coverage begins at noon on MSG, with puck drop scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.
