The Buffalo Bills have signed quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Jalen Virgil to one-year contracts. Both players have previous experience with the team.
Shane Buechele began his NFL career in 2021 as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs. He joined the Chiefs’ practice squad as a rookie and served as a backup to Patrick Mahomes during the 2022 season. After being waived by Kansas City, Buechele was added to the Bills’ practice squad in 2023 and later signed a reserve/future contract in January 2024. He spent the 2024 season on injured reserve before being released prior to the 2025 season and rejoining Buffalo’s practice squad.
In December 2025, Buechele returned to Kansas City, where he was promoted to the active roster and made his NFL debut against the Raiders, completing seven of fourteen passes for eighty-eight yards. He then rejoined Buffalo’s practice squad in January as the team prepared for the playoffs.
Jalen Virgil entered the league in 2022 as an undrafted free agent with Denver. In his rookie year, he recorded two receptions for seventy-five yards, including a sixty-six-yard touchdown on his first career catch. Virgil appeared in nine games and started once for Denver before being placed on injured reserve in August 2023 and subsequently waived a year later.
Following his release from Denver, Virgil joined Buffalo’s practice squad and was eventually promoted to the active roster, appearing in seven games during the 2024 season. He was released and re-signed to the practice squad before signing a future/reserve contract with Buffalo in January 2025 but was waived ahead of that season.
Virgil briefly joined Arizona’s practice squad after leaving Buffalo. He also spent time playing for the DC Defenders in the United Football League before returning to Buffalo.
