Buffalo will play their final game of a three-game homestand against the New England Patriots on Sunday night. The matchup will see the Bills debut their new ‘Cold Front’ uniforms as part of Nike’s Rivalries series.

The game marks an opportunity for Buffalo to remain undefeated within the AFC East. With victories over each divisional opponent so far, a win against New England would give the Bills a 3-0 record in division play this season.

“It’s a divisional game, so it’s never anything easy when it comes to that,” said offensive coordinator Joe Brady. “And so, it’s going to be a huge challenge, huge opportunity for us.”

Buffalo has won six of its last eight games against New England and currently holds four consecutive home wins over the Patriots, including playoff contests. This meeting is notable as it will be the first time the Bills face Mike Vrabel as head coach of New England. Vrabel was hired in January after previously playing for the team from 2001 to 2008.

New England enters Sunday’s contest following a strong performance in which they scored 42 points against Carolina, achieving their largest margin of victory since 2022. Quarterback Drake Maye contributed three total touchdowns and posted a passer rating of 155.6. Maye leads the NFL with a completion percentage of 74%.

Through four games, New England’s offense is ranked among the top ten in scoring and red zone efficiency while also featuring one of the league’s strongest run defenses. Their defense allows just 77.5 rushing yards per game and only 3.3 yards per carry but has struggled defending inside their own red zone.

The Bills’ running attack, led by James Cook and supported by effective offensive line play, ranks first in rushing offense at more than 163 yards per game. Cook has recorded three straight games with over 100 rushing yards—the first Buffalo player to do so since Fred Jackson in 2011—and currently stands second in league rushing totals with 401 yards.

“He’s running the ball really well,” said Joe Brady about Cook’s recent performances. “The element that he’s done a good job of adding to his game is it’s not just the zone schemes, it’s the creases and how the blocks are being played…He has a good understanding of what we’re trying to do. He’s been really special of late.”

Despite these achievements, Buffalo faces what may be its toughest test yet on Sunday given New England’s strong run defense statistics.

“This is a dangerous matchup for Buffalo,” said ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky during his appearance on ‘One Bills Live.’ “New England is playing good, solid football…If the Bills can run the football against New England, they’ll be in good shape.”

Drake Maye’s development continues to draw attention as he became last week’s first player under age 24 with at least two touchdown passes and better than a 75 percent completion rate across three consecutive games (minimum fifteen attempts per contest). His passing average ranks third-highest among quarterbacks this season at eight yards per completion; his overall passer rating also places him among league leaders.

“To be able to extend plays, move the pocket and move the launch point is critical,” said Mike Vrabel about Maye’s style of play. “Those plays have helped us, and he’s done a good job with them.”

Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins added: “I think every week, he’s going to grow whether it’s a win or a loss…So seeing him be able to grow and see the field a little bit easier is always awesome.”

Special teams could factor significantly into Sunday’s outcome as well. Last week Marcus Jones returned an eighty-seven yard punt for a touchdown—one reason he leads all players in punt return average this season at nearly twenty-nine yards per attempt—and Antonio Gibson ranks fourth on kick returns thanks partly to his ninety-yard touchdown earlier this year.

“He’s a playmaker; everybody knows he’s a playmaker,” cornerback Christian Gonzalez said about Jones’ impact on special teams.

Head coach Mike Vrabel commented: “We’ve got the one kickoff return, but to be able to do that on punt return—fantastic effort by Marcus and everybody else out there…Again that has to be weapon.”

Meanwhile Buffalo continues making adjustments after injuries affected their punting lineup; Mitch Wishnowsky will serve as punter this week due to Cameron Johnston’s absence from foot and ankle injuries.

“We’ve looked at (what we got in this game), and we’ll continue to talk about it,” head coach Sean McDermott stated regarding ongoing changes among return specialists.

On Sunday night fans attending Highmark Stadium are encouraged by team officials—and Nike—to participate in an all-white “White Out” event coinciding with unveiling new uniforms inspired by winter weather conditions common throughout western New York state.

“The clear choice was to celebrate our region’s climate especially when it comes later in season,” said Aaron LaPorta Director of Design for Buffalo regarding uniform design decisions.

Bills graphic designer Sean Pantling described further inspiration: “A lot of imagery was just some snow games—a lot bison snowstorms—just how snow sticks tough fur how kicks up when running through snow…trying capture that.”

Fans arriving at Highmark Stadium will receive white rally towels provided by Wegmans who will also offer limited edition apparel related specifically rivalries series at select store locations including those found within Rochester Southern Tier Syracuse regions.
