The Chicago Bears defeated the Buffalo Bills 38-0 in a preseason matchup at Soldier Field on Sunday night. The game marked the second loss for the Bills this preseason, bringing their record to 0-2, while the Bears improved to 1-0-1.

Bears quarterback Caleb Williams led his team to an early lead with a series of successful plays, including a 36-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus in the first quarter. The Bills’ offense struggled throughout the game, starting with a three-and-out on their opening drive after two false start penalties set them back.

The Bears continued to dominate offensively in the first half. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent connected with Tyler Scott for an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and running back Ian Wheeler scored on a one-yard run later in the half. By halftime, Chicago held a commanding 28-0 lead.

Buffalo was unable to generate momentum after halftime. Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky managed some gains through both passing and running plays by Frank Gore but was ultimately stopped by penalties and turnovers on downs. In total, Trubisky completed seven of thirteen passes for 56 yards.

Chicago extended its lead further in the third quarter with a 40-yard field goal from Cairo Santos. The Bills’ defense forced some stops, including contributions from new defensive back Tre Herndon, but Buffalo’s offense continued to struggle.

In the fourth quarter, Austin Reed took over as quarterback for Chicago and led another long scoring drive capped by an Ian Wheeler rushing touchdown that brought the score to 38-0.

Bills rookie safety Wande Owens made several tackles late in the game, but Buffalo’s offense could not convert drives into points. Shane Buechele finished out at quarterback for Buffalo without scoring.

Key players for Buffalo included Mike White (4/11 passing for 54 yards), Frank Gore (8 carries for 50 yards; four receptions for 31 yards), and defenders Jordan Hancock and Dorian Strong who each recorded eight combined tackles. Hancock left the game during the third quarter due to a shoulder injury.

The Bills will look to regroup before facing Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
