Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) is pushing for the allocation of $2 million in the 2024-25 state budget for the 'Double Up Food Bucks New York' program. This initiative aims to help individuals and families access locally sourced fresh fruits and vegetables. Administered by the non-profit organization Field & Fork Network, the Double Up program matches every dollar that SNAP recipients spend on fresh produce at participating locations, effectively doubling their purchasing power and promoting healthier food choices.

"In 2023, Double Up distributed $17,127 in the 60th Senate District alone," Senator Gallivan highlighted the impact of the program on the local community. He emphasized, "As inflation and food costs have increased, the Double Up program has helped SNAP recipients stretch their food budget and access healthier options for their families."

Senator Gallivan also underscored the program's role in supporting New York farms, stating, "Equally important is the support the program provides for New York farms. This funding will allow the program to serve additional families and expand the number of participating businesses."

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Senator Gallivan and members of the Senate Minority Conference have urged for the inclusion of the $2 million funding in the ongoing budget negotiations. The Double Up Food Bucks program currently operates in over 230 locations across thirty-two counties in New York, with more than 100,000 SNAP shoppers having participated in the program.

The funding allocation proposed by Senator Gallivan aims to further extend the reach and impact of the Double Up Food Bucks program, benefiting both SNAP recipients and local businesses while promoting healthier eating habits within communities.
